South Western Road Trip
Next up for the day was 'The Valley of the Giants - Tree Top Walk.' The walk feels pretty tame to start with (its all wheelchair accessible so its not steep), but before you know it, you're 40m in the air walking between huge trees!
Its not for anyone with vertigo...
And of course the Paradise Paradox (cool name for a theory eh?) came in to play.
There were loads of 'Tingle' trees everywhere which, when they get burnt in bush fires, carry on growing on the outside of the charred tree. This leaves the middle hollow where the dead tree decays or gets eaten by fungus.
Here's some of the strange fungus growing inside.
And this one was a big bugger. Oh, by the way, Tony had his cast removed the other week, but still needs the crutches.
As we drove towards Pemberton (our town for the night) we saw some small bush fires by the side of the road with a bunch of firemen keeping tabs on what was burning. We drove for about 2 hours and the smoke didn't seem to lift. The fires didn't seem that bad but the smoke just hung there like fog for miles and miles... It was really eerie.
