Singapore Cheers Si

Day 4

A quick page today as Im killing time before I catch my flight to Oz....

Was up early today to meet Luke and Kate and go to Sentosa Island. An ex-British Naval Fortress which was overrun by the Japanese in 1942, when the attack came from the north via Malaya rather than as expected from the sea.

Since the mid-sixties though, Sentosa has become an island for tourism. We took the cable car over which you get from the top of a 15 storey building on the shore.

View of the Singapore Skyline from the cable car

Sentosa Island.... Lush.

They imported tons of white sand to make up artificial beaches, built hotels, a golf course, an aquarium an even a place for dolphin shows. As well as making a huge museum of the concrete fort itself.

Sentosa Island.... Lush.

We caught a really good dolphin show first then got to stroke the pink dolphins for 5 dollars.

Stroking a pink Dolphin - Sounds a bit dodgy

The strange thing with the island, is apart from all the lush forests and manmade beaches. You're still only a mile or so from Singapore's port and oil refineries. Arguably Singapore's raison d'etre even more than shopping.

Docks

From this point of the old fort you can see the man made beaches on the left and the oil tankers out on the right.

Man Made

Had a quick shower and now im off to catch a flight to Oz.

See ya.
