Kingsnorth in Queenstown
A couple of days later, we did the luge again, this time with the Nurses too. While we were up there, we saw the Jeffs, who were there doing 'The Ledge' part of their thrillogy. As we watched them all jumping off, I had a real urge to do it again. (I hadn't jumped off it during the day) But no. I don't have the money to do stuff twice. (But i'm only in Queenstown once) I should spend that money on food or something constructive (But you could get hit by a bus tomorrow and you can't take it with you) No. Even If I do get 20% off because I've done it before. At which point a charged looking Sinead walked in and went "I'll do it if you do it!"
I decided to try a 'Reverse Gainer,' where you run off the ledge and try to put yourself into a ball and backflip off, spinning around backwards all the way down. You have to do a big jump off the ledge because you don't want to hit your head (check out the worried expression on the woman's face who'd just explained it to me.)
Check out what a cool dude I am before jumping. Yeah! Bring it on!
Unfortunately, not being the cool dude I think I am (and this being only the second time i'd jumped like this), I got about half way in a ball, then as my brain realised I was falling head first backwards, just went 'PPPPHHAAAARRGGHL' and my arms and legs flung out as I waved madly all the way the way down! The picture captures the exact moment my brain bottles it!
Feeling charged on the way back to the gondola, we stopped and looked out at Queenstown. The sun was setting behind the snowcapped mountains and the sky went every pastel colour from blue to yellow to green to pink to purple. We just stood there watching as the colour reflected in the massive Lake Wakitipo, all agreed that Queenstown is the most beautiful place we'd ever been to.
We, of course, went for a Spa afterwards. Looking out of the open roof and out at the mountains disappearing in the darkness, the stars came out. It had been another good day. We went out for a meal that night as it was the Nurses last night. It sucks making such good friends, getting into all kinds of adventures, then saying goodbye. Ah well, Dublin is only a half hour flight away...
Next day I did 'The Nevis' with the Jeffs.
I've spent most of the rest of my time here in Queenstown just chilling out, admiring the scenery, writing emails, (writing this!!) and generally relaxing. After 4 months travelling I'm also teaching myself to cook more than tuna pasta and a stir-in sauces. As I've spent far too much money here in Queenstown (nearly $2000 in two weeks, but I've had a the time of my life with the adrenalin stuff and the party scene.) cooking has becoming my exciting activity. I'm sure I'll get bored of it just like everyone else in the world, but as for now, I'm really enjoying experimenting with stuff like 'Hardcore Bangers and Mash' and 'Extreme Chicken Stir-frys.'
I only had one more thing I wanted to do in Queenstown and that was the 'Red Bull Stunt Plane.'
