Kingsnorth in Queenstown
I arrived in Queenstown buzzing from the bridge jump. We checked into the Pinewood Lodge complex situated about 5 minutes walk outside the main hub of town. At reception, we showed great restraint and managed to wait at least 5-10 seconds after checking in before booking the Spa.
An hour or so later, walking down the unlit, short cut alley into town with Barbara (Ms Scarlet) and Karen, (Ms Green) I could hardly feel the cold because I was still feeling 10 feet tall and bullet-proof from the jump, yet relaxed and satisfied from the Spa. As we left the alley and stepped out into the open sports field, I picked up my pace slightly to walk beside knee-falling-rock-PAINRIGHTHAND-tomorrow cancelled flashing before my eyes-PAINLEFTSHOULDER-rolling-and up on my feet again. What the hell was that? I laughed as I looked back at the huge tree stump (which is invisible from the other angle) and the rock (??) just on the other side of it which I hit with amazing force (I think I pivoted rather than fell). My thumb and shoulder started throbing as Karen and Barbara worriedly asked if I was OK. Apparently the roll and the bounce back up looked really good. It was just a shame it hurt so much.
I kept laughing at the situation. I screamed down the West coast to be here in Queenstown to go hardcore on my birthday. I jumped off one of the world's tallest towers (twice), spent ages freezing cold underground, performed a war dance, bounced down a hill in a giant ball, got thrown around in a speedboat at 75km/h, jumped off a huge bridge and came away from all of it pretty much unscathed. Now, the night before arguably the biggest day of my life, a day which would eclipse all the others. I fall over a tree stump, and may have to cancel it all...
It's at times like this, I think it's clear the universe has a sense of humour.
I spent the night trying to eat and drink while pressing ice-in-a-napkin against my thumb and wrist. I decided to have an early night and try to sleep it off.
